Vieux Fort-South and La Clery Make History as Inaugural Semi-Pro Champions
In a thrilling finale at the Dennery Playing Field on Saturday, Vieux Fort South and La Clery etched their names in the history books as the first-ever champions of the Semi-Pro Football League’s Tier 2 and Tier 1 divisions.
Vieux Fort South set the tone for the evening with a commanding 5–1 victory over tournament favorites South Castries, ending their unbeaten run in spectacular fashion. Jevic McFarlane, named Player of the Final, led the charge as Obafami Poyotte and Moses Henry each netted twice to dismantle the opposition’s defense. Although South Castries managed to pull one back in the second half, an 80th-minute goal from Hosea Mathurin sealed Vieux Fort’s emphatic win and their well-earned promotion to Tier 1.
The Tier 1 final between Central Castries and La Clery delivered equal drama and intensity. Central Castries opened the scoring but suffered a blow when Jamal Wilfred was sent off in the 32nd minute. La Clery seized the momentum, with Uhann Degazon leveling the score and Mervin St. Romain adding a decisive goal in the 80th minute. Andrus Remy’s stunning strike in stoppage time secured a 3–1 victory and crowned La Clery the Tier 1 champions.
With these triumphs, Vieux Fort South and La Clery not only claimed coveted titles but also marked a milestone moment for St. Lucian football, bringing the curtain down on an unforgettable inaugural season.
